Pocket Identity: A Typology of Phone Cases
This typology explored personal identity through a typology of phone cases, documenting variations in phone type, case style, and color. Each case reflected its owner, revealing patterns of personality, interests, and self-expression. To extend this idea, I designed a mix-and-match flip book allowing viewers to combine different case elements, emphasizing identity as not fixed but constructed through customizable choices. This interactive format highlighted that even small visual changes can alter how someone presents themselves.
The facecase transformation creates a product experience akin to interacting with a customizable beauty brand. Users select a phone case and then choose interchangeable magnetic eyeshadow palettes to attach, creating a unified and customized system. This extends the mix-and-match concept from my flip book into a tactile, real-world experience. The phone thus becomes both a canvas and a container, seamlessly blending digital life, individual style, and physical self-expression.
